The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor. (Proverbs 22:9)

April 6, 2020 : It is heart-wrenching to see the situation of the people who are homeless, daily wage earners, the beggars, the migrants stranded in railway stations, bus stands, and lying on the footpath. Truly their sufferings due to hunger, and thirst during this time of lock down due to Covid-19 is unimaginable. As the sudden lock down announced on March 22nd midnight took them by shock and anxiety, many people were held up and left in hopeless situation, without the provision of any basic needs. Being aware of the situation of the people struggling for their survival, we, the sisters of Bethany Convent, Bendur Mangalore, collaborated with the Apostolic Carmelite sisters in reaching out to the needy. The volunteers of Bethany Sahodaya Social work Centre and the local people of Bendur Parish in the surrounding area joined hands with us.

At this time through right intervention of our Corporator Naveen D’Souza, we could reach out and provide food packets and distribute to the people in the heart of Mangalore city. So, we prepared the food, packed it, and distributed it among more than 100 people who were in want of food and water. This arrangement, will continue till the lockdown is withdrawn. In fact some other NGOs too have been compassionate towards them in this place.

May the poverty of the people be alleviated and may God grant good health to the people suffering from the deadly disease in various parts of our country and the world.
