Sr M Leo BS nee Annakutty (82) of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, Mangalore, passed away on January 14th 2022 at 10.45 pm at Maryvale Convent, Kinnigoli. She is the daughter of the Late Mathew and the Late Mary belonging to St Mary’s Church, Kaipally of Palai Diocese, Kerala. She has one brother and three sisters. Her funeral rites will be on Saturday January 15th 2022 at 03.30 pm at Immaculate Conception Church, Kinnigoli.

Sr Leo, a spirit-filled person drew her strength from the Eucharistic Lord. She was known for her simplicity and innocence who gave her committed service in the community and in the school. She modeled her life after the example of St Therese of Child Jesus by finding joy in doing little things and the household works of the community. She was very hospitable to everyone who came to the community and through her simple humorous ways brought joy and gladness in the lives of others. She made efforts to learn the local language and serve the people with love especially in the school and the parish. Wherever she was, there was the sunshine of laughter and joy.

She served at Christ King Karkal, St Xavier’s Convent Ajekar, Madeleine Convent Mulki, Loyola Convent Gadag, Nazareth Convent Bajpe, Providence Convent Balkunje,Pompei Convent Kawdoor and Lourdes Convent Kanajar. In the year 2017 she was transferred to Maryvale Convent Kinnigoli where she spent her last days surrendering her life to God.

She was a known case of bronchial asthma and suffered from hypertension, diabetes and dementia for the past 6 years. During this time in all her helplessness she would gaze at the Blessed Sacrament and spend time in silent prayer.Since a week her physical condition deteriorated as she stopped the intake of food. On 14thJanuary 2022 at 10.45 pm in the presence of her only brother and sister who came to see her, Sr Premlatha, the Superior and all the sisters of the community she peacefully breathed her last and commended her soul into the hands of her heavenly Father. In the person of Sr Leo, we have lost a simple and dedicated Bethany sister.

I extend my sincere condolence to Sr Cicilia Mendonca, the Provincial Superior and all the sisters of Mangalore Province; Sr Premlatha the local Superior and the members of Maryvale Convent, Kinnigoli who cared for her lovingly.

Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

Sr Rose Celine BS
Superior General
