“ I glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do”.(John 17:4)

Having accomplished her mission on earth, Sr Therese Clare breathed her last on Sunday 9 January 2022, at 12 noon at the age of 79 and 58 year of her religious life at KMC hospital, Mangalore. Sr Threse Clare nee Euphrasine Lobo hails from St Thomas the Apostle Parish, Nirkan, Mangalore Diocese, Karnataka. She was the eldest among the nine children of late Nicholas Lobo and late Nathalia Lobo.

Sr Therese Clare had her primary education at St Joseph’s School, Kankanady and St Margaret Mary School, Bendore and high school education at Ave Maria High School, Sirsi. It is her close association with Sisters of Cloistered Carmel which drew her to the Congregation of Bethany. She joined Bethany on 16.06.1962 and made her First Profession on 04.05.1964. She had her TCH training at Vanitha Training College Dharwad.

She had special love and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and Blessed Virgin Mary. She brought the entire world to God through her prayers of intercession. She was urged to participate in the Eucharistic sacrifice daily for her spiritual nourishment. In praying the rosary she found great strength and consolation. Her welcoming and sober presence, compassionate love for the needy and selfless service inspired one and all. Her zeal and enthusiasm in promoting vocations for priestly and religious life was praise worthy.

She has served in different communities of Bangalore and Western Province in various capacities as an effective teacher, efficient headmistress and loving superior at Gadag, Dharwad, Sirsi, Dandeli, Santibstwad, Dornahalli, Mudigere and Provincial House Bangalore. After her retirement she rendered commendable service as Nursery teacher at Bethany School Mudigere. Sr Therese Clare had special fascination for little children and the tiny tots in the Kindergarten. She also spent time in catechesis and other pastoral works. Her ever smiling countenance revived the spirits of those who encountered her. She had soft corner for the poor and needy. She would contribute her mite to improve their economic condition. She was a loving sister, known for her simplicity and living a contented life. Her presence, compassionate love for the needy and selflessness are an inspiration for all. She was jovial and hearty in the company of the sisters and people.

On 4th December 2021 she had a fall and suffered head injury and internal bleeding. She was admitted to Fr. Muller’s hospital, Kankanady Mangalore. From there she was shifted to KMC hospital, Mangalore for further treatment. On 9th December 2021 she was operated in order to control the internal bleeding. From then, till date she never gained consciousness. On 4 January 2022 she was anointed by Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ from St Aloysius community, Mangalore. She was given the spiritual assistance and care during her last moments by Sr Sahana the Provincial Superior, Bangalore Province and Sr Praveen who were at her bed side.

Her funeral services will take place on 10 January 2022, at St Antony’s Church, Mudigere at 10:00 am.

I extend my sincere condolence to Sr Sahana, the Provincial Superior and all the sisters of Bangalore Province; Sr Lidwin Rebello the local Superior and the members of St Martha’s Convent, Mudigere who cared for her lovingly.

Eternal Rest Grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul rest in peace.
