Shillong the capital of Meghalaya- abode of clouds is located at an altitude of 1496 meters. It is one of the largest hill stations in India. Bethany was contemplating to set foot in Shillong, Meghalaya especially to educate the young religious, the daughters of the soil. God in His plan had prepared a place, which we were able to discover only in the year 2002. Through Most Rev Dominic Jala, Archbishop of Shillong, God made it possible for us to fulfil this dream.
Having obtained the permission from the Archbishop of Shillong, the then Provincial Superior Sr Canisia with the help of the local people was able to locate a house in Nongrimbah at Laitumkhrah, Shillong. On 11 June 2002 the sale deed was signed. On 16 July 2002 the house was blessed by Fr Hilarius the Vicar General. Sr Canisia the Provincial Superior inaugurated it in the presence of many Priests, Sisters and the local people. The house was canonically erected on 8 September 2002 with Sr Noeline as its first Superior. This house would serve as a study cum transit house for the sisters of the Province. Initially the candidates too were accommodated in this house to pursue further studies. The Sisters have the privilege of studying at different Colleges with different streams such as BA, BSc, B.com, Theology and General Nursing. Hence this institute is a boon for the Province.
As the years passed by, apart from their academic studies the sisters started to involve themselves in the life of the parish. One of the main apostolates after learning the need of the people of the locality was to reach out to the children with single parents. Therefore a project to help the children from K.G to Class X was launched. Every year 50 students are helped financially to carry on their studies.
As Sr Noeline the Superior was elected Assistant Provincial Superior, Sr Hariette succeeded her, followed by Sr Lucious, Sr Cleopha and Sr Olga. At present Sr Mary Laldikzuali is the Superior of the Convent.
