Surrounded by rubber plantation away from the town of Bantwal-Moodbidri, stands a peace filled Shanthi Rani Convent, a community dedicated to our Lady the Queen of Peace. Shanthi Rani Convent is situated in Siddakatte parish in Arambody village and is well linked by buses plying on the road from Moodbidri Bantwal and Venur. The rubber estate was named ‘Shanthi Vana’.
When our superiors were looking for a suitable place for the convent building, Ms Mary D Souza, the wife of late Mr Alex D Souza, pointed out the spot where Fr Founder had placed a medal. That became the site for the convent building. The dream of our Fr Founder came true to establish a house where manual labour and social service is given prime place. The house inaugurated on the 14th of April, 1989 was named Shanthi Rani Convent. The pioneer members of this community were Sr Jane and Sr Vincent. Initially there were hardships in caring for the estate. But the relentless supervision, hard labour, concern, and eco-friendliness of Sr Medela boosted the growth of the estate and soon it rewarded its yield. Sr Bernadette, Sr Laurentia, Sr Clementine and Sr Edna have taken the responsibility as Superiors of the community as well as cooperating with the authorities of the Congregation in caring for this estate during their term of office as superiors.
The Sisters of Shanthi Rani Convent, the coordinators and the social workers of Sahodaya are guiding the social service activities of Shanthi Seva Kendra. At present Sr Carita, Sr Ronaldine, Sr Leandra and Sr Shanthi Flavia are involved in pastoral, educational apostolate with the animation given by Sr Carita. They engage themselves in the service of the needy by tailoring course, teaching Sunday Catechism, visiting the houses and being generous in their hospitality. The continual guidance of Sr Medela was a great support and encouragement to the Sisters. On 1st November 2014 the new Chapel building was blessed by Rev Fr Denis Moras Prabhu, the Vicar General of the Diocese and Inaugurated by Sr Lillis BS, the Assistant Superior General.
