8 September 2021, the feast of the Nativity of Mother Mary was a memorable day for the Sisters of Guwahati Province. On this auspicious day witnessed the erection of Bethany Salajpur, Medinipur, 16th community of the Province at West Bengal. West Bengal. Indeed, it is a new mission in collaboration with the SVD Fathers. Sr Sandhya, the Provincial Superior of Guwahati Province installed Sr Laveena Flora, the first Superior of Bethany Convent, Salajpur and Sr Charou Elizabeth Pao and Sr Rosaline Dukru the members. This day was marked with a double significance as it was the Foundation day of the Congregation of the Society of the Divine Word.

Inspired by the spirit of the Founder and the Charism of the Institute this new mission in West Bengal specifically caters to Socio-Pastoral and Educational activities along with the Religious Fathers. The vibrancy of the mission has a lot of scope for further development of the area. The Santhal community in the vicinity adds warmth, love and a cultural fabric to this new mission. The welcome gesture of the local people has left the sisters with beautiful memories and fascination. A house rented as the Convent serves the purpose of residence for the sisters inclusive of all religious activities.

The fresh new shoot of Guwahati Province has just taken life to the full, to nest thousands of people who will come in contact with the sisters in their varied ministries in the days and years ahead. We pray that the Almighty will always accompany our sisters to be a witness to Jesus to the people around. Our special thanks to Rev Sr Rose Celine, the Superior General for the constant guidance, encouragement and the General Councillors along with the Procurator General for their constant support. May God Bless us!
