Pastoral care for children- Jyothi Nilaya

Mother Macrina, the Superior General, requested the Most Rev. D Simon Lourdusamy, the Archbishop of Bangalore, to permit to start a Kannada Medium School in Bangalore. In response to this, on 5th July 1971 Jyothi Nilaya Community was opened at Kacharakanahalli. Fr Ullasappa Megalatti, the parish priest of St. Pius X Church, Kammanahalli blessed the convent and it was named as Jyothi Nilaya, Sr Louise was the Superior and Sr Noella was the Headmistress. Sr. Berchmans was the member.

In 1977 Jyothi High School was started. Sr. Simplina was appointed Headmistress.  In 1983 Jyothi Nilaya convent building was blessed by Fr Lazar D’Souza, the parish priest. On 20th January 1984 Jeevan Jyothi Home for the aged and elderly sisters was started.  Jyothi Social Service Centre was started for the needs of the local poor. Sr Doreen and Sr Yvette were working in the centre.  On 26th June 2002 Jyothi Pre-University College was started. Sr. Georgina is the Principal. In the same year English Medium High School was started and Sr Emil was appointed as the Headmistress.  The sisters of Jyothi Nilaya, true to its name, spread the light of Christ by involving themselves in pastoral, educational and social activities for the least and the lost.
