St Joseph’s Convent, K. R. Nagar took root in 1968 in response to the divine call through Rev. Fr. Felix Tauro, Parish Priest of Dornahalli to have Christian presence in K.R.Nagar. At the request of Fr.Felix Tauro, the then Superior General, Mother Macrina, requested the Bishop of Mysore Rt Rev Mathias Fernandes and permission was granted to erect a community in K.R.Nagar. Sr.Laeta the first Superior along with Sr Myrrah, Sr Celine & Sr.Dancilla began living in a rented house availed by Mr.Y.K Ramachandra Rao. Wherein the Nursery class began on May 22nd 1967. The Primary English Medium School was opened on May 22nd 1968 with 135 children.Sr. Laeta was the Headmistress. A residence was built for sisters, blessed and inaugurated by Bishop Mathias Fernandes in 1976 and foundation for school building was also laid to cater to the educational needs of the people. In 1969 Bishop blessed the school building too, providing space for classes 2nd to 7th as the number of students too increased. To cater to the needs of less privileged children Kannada Medium Primary School was opened in 1988 headed by Sr.Tina. Sisters not only engaged in Educational apostolate but extended their service in the Parish, teaching Catechism, Prison ministry & other pastoral and social work.
