“Like gold in the Furnace, he tried them, and like a sacrificial burnt offering He accepted them.” (Wis 3:6).
These words from the book of Wisdom have been realized in the life of Sr Edwine BS of the Holy face of Jesus. She was in her 82nd year of age and 60th year of religious life in the Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany.
Sr Edwine was born on 27.07.1942 as the first child to Mr Victor D’sa and Magdeline D’mello of Infant Jesus Parish Madankaup of Mangalore Diocese. She joined Bethany on 24.05.1962 and made her perpetual Profession on 06.05.1970.
Sr Edwine was a very committed religious, humble in the spirit of Handmaid like Mary. She rendered her service till her last breath with willingness and joy. Over and above she was very prayerful and faithful in little things. She was very dutiful, transparent, and outspoken person. There was no guile in her. She had great love for the community, concern for each other and especially the poor were very dear to her heart.She rendered her commendable services in various schools and after her retirement assisted in the school office. All the Headmistresses would rely on her for any responsible task. She rendered her services in Sirsi, Mudigere, Mulki, Santibastwad, Jyothi Bangalore, Sagar, Gadag, Chittapur, Londa and Bethany Convent Panvel, Maharashtra.
Having travelled to Loyola Convent Gadag to cast her vote on 7 May, she travelled back to the community and thereafter to her cousin’s house in Mumbai. On 10.05.2024 she suffered a massive heart attack and was admitted at 4.30 pm in Holy Family Hospital Bandra and was on ventilator. She breathed her last at 8.11 pm. Sr Elsy the Superior, Sr Helen D’souza and sisters from Mahim and Maria Krupa were with her along with her cousins.
Having lived a committed life, God was gracious in granting her the favour of her peaceful home going. May she continue to glorify God in heaven as she did here on earth.
Her funeral rites will be held at St Francis Xavier Church Panvel on 12.05.2024 at 4.00 pm.
I express my heartfelt condolences to Sr Sally, the Provincial Superior, Sr Elsy the Superior of Bethany Convent Panvel and all the sisters of Western Province.
Eternal rest grant to her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.
