Sr M Sylveria BS (91) of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, Mangalore, passed away on Monday 31st August 2020. She is the member of St Raymond’s Convent, Vamanjoor. Sr Sylveria hails from Taccode, Holy Cross Parish of Mangalore Diocese and is the daughter of the Late Raymond Francis Crasta and the late Rosy Florine Lobo. She has three brothers and one sister. Through her life of prayer and contact with young girls she sowed the seed of vocations. As the fruit of her labour many of her relatives joined priestly and religious life specially to Bethany.

God adorned her with many qualities such as simplicity of life, gratefulness, cheerfulness, and a sense of humour. She spent long hours before the Blessed Sacrament. She loved the company of sisters in the community and they sought after her. She has rendered commendable services as an efficient and effective teacher in the field of education for 36 years in various institutions of Mangalore Province. Her zeal for pastoral ministry was praiseworthy. After her retirement she was involved in pastoral ministry, home management, kitchen garden and manual labour. She was cordial in her dealings with the poor and reached out to them in their needs.

She enjoyed good health for long years. She suffered from diabetes and was under treatment. A month ago she had a fall and was hospitalized at Concetta Hospital, Kinnigoli. Gradually, her health deteriorated. She was discharged from the Hospital and was taken care in the community. On 28th August her condition became critical and anointing of the sick was administered by Fr James D Souza, the Parish Priest of St Joseph the Worker Church, Vamanjoor. Sr Cicilia Mendonca the Provincial Superior, Sr Gracy Monica the local Superior and the sisters of St Raymond’s community offered her prayerful support by praying beside her continuously. Till the end she was calm and serene. On 31st August at 2.00am as sisters were praying she flew away gently to meet her Creator to be with Him forever. As we thank God for the beautiful gift of Sr Sylveria we do feel the sorrow of her home going. May she be welcomed in the eternal abode!

The funeral Mass of Sr Sylveria will be held at St Raymond’s Convent Chapel, Vamanjoor on Friday 31st August 2020 at 3.00 pm.
