Sr Nerittanee Florine Fernandes (72) of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, Silchar Province, passed away on Tuesday 3rd August 2021 at Railway Hospital, Lumding. She was a member of Avila Convent, Lumding, Assam.
Sr Neritta was born on 15.10.1949 to late Joseph Michael Fernandes and Rose Mary Fernandes belonging to Christ the King Parish,Venurof Mangalore diocese,Karnataka. She was the sixthone among the eight children.
Sr Neritta was anever joyfuland prayerful person. Doing little things with perfection was her motto.By her cheerful countenance,gracious smile and gentle manners she won the hearts of young and old all throughher religious life. She was a great lover of nature and gardening was her hobby. She took delight in growing varied species of flowers and beautified the convent campus wherever she lived.
She was a cheerful missionary, and mission with the youth was close to her heart. She preached Christ to all, in the school, parish and villages. She served in different communities of North East India-Silchar, Kohima, Agartala, Kolasib, Dimapur, Viswema and Shillong, and also in Mangalore and Mahim- Mumbai, as an efficient and an interesting teacher. She also served as a candidate directress for few years, and spent time in catechesis and other pastoral works. She was overall a friendly person and had a good rapport with the community and people outside whom she motivated to care for the needy. She was always kind and charitable to the poor around. She was neat and tidy.
Sr Neritta, is truly admired for her enduring spirit. she suffered from acute diabetes for a long period. Of late, she was finding difficult to take needed quantity of food, and dueto fluctuating physiological conditions she was feeling much weak. On 3rdAugust she was to be brought to Silchar for treatment by her Superior but on 2nd August evening her condition was unstable and so she was shifted to Railway Hospital Lumding in the early hours of 3rd August. She was put on breathing assistance but God had his own ways. She succumbed to her illness at about 5pm and commended her soul into the hands of her Creator!
Sr Neritta’s funeral rite will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Lumding on 4th August 2021 at 1.00pm
I extend my sincere condolences to Sr Lucious, the Provincial Superior and all the sisters of Silchar Province; Sr Sumitha, the local Superior and the members of Avila Convent, Lumding, who lovingly took care of Sr Neritta.
Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace
