Mary Mount Convent and School are situated on top of the Thlangnuam hill. It has with 187 steps leading from the road up to the Convent. Under the patronage of Mother Mary, the sisters experience her motherly care and protection. The prayer for protection which is recited by every student with much trust and devotion has protected the sisters and continues to protect them from all calamities and dangers.

A group of 4 sisters, late Sr Gretta, Sr Lourdina, Sr Livinia and Sr Ottilia arrived at Aizawl way back on 22 January 1969 after 3 days journey in a convoy of army trucks from Silchar, the neighbouring state. Today this distance is covered in 6 hours time. Mary Mount, Aizawl is the 4th community in North East. If we are passionate about something nothing can stop us from achieving it not even age. The hard work that was put in to begin this convent is passed on to the next generation by able, dedicated and committed sisters who work very strenuously to spread the mission and show the compassionate face of the Father.

Mary Mount School began with a humble beginning; today it has grown in infrastructure and number. The Sisters are privileged to mould the character and shape the destiny of the students through Bethany Core values. At present the sisters are involved in teaching and school administration along with 46 teachers. There are 1600 students studying from K.G. to Class VIII. The past has been a story of divine guidance and human cooperation. Amidst difficult and trying conditions Mary Mount has made tremendous progress keeping in mind the Charism and Spirit of the congregation. It is said that struggles, trials and troubles are all tools by which God passions for success.

In 1977, Bethany Sisters started working with the Montfort brothers of St Gabriel. They were running St Paul’s High School, on the neighbouring hill. Sr Chrisette and Sr Jossy were the first sisters to join the staff.  At present Mary Mount community consists of 6 sisters. They are Sr Sylvia the Superior, Sr Rosy Pinto, Sr Christy, Sr Mary Kikon, Sr Saroj Macwan and Sr Veronica Zohmingliani.  All are actively involved in the education apostolate, and pastoral ministry. Sisters take keen interest to educate the rural poor and reach out to them through family visits, family prayers, youth ministry, Bethany Lay Association, Little way association and visiting the families in the neighbourhood.
