Sr M Sunil BS nee Mary Fernandes(75) of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, Mangalore, passed away on February 02nd 2022 at 04.30 am at Maryvale Convent, Kinnigoli. She is the daughter of the Late Ignatius Fernandes and of the Late Brigith D Souza belonging to Immaculate Conception Church Kinnigoli, Mangalore Diocese.She has two brothers and three sisters. One among them is Sr. Sarita BS, a Bethany Sister serving at Queen of the Missions Convent, Sampaje. Her funeral rites will be held on February 2nd 2022 at 03.30 pm at Immaculate Conception Church, Kinnigoli.
Sr Sunil was known for her docility who joyfully obeyed God and her Superiors; carried on the responsibilities assigned to her with utmost diligence. She was looking forward to celebrate her Golden Jubilee of Religious Life during this year 2022. She served as the Superior at Bethany Convent Badyar, Lisieux Convent Puttur, St Xavier’s Convent Ajekar and Pompei Convent Kawdoor. She served as a dedicated teacher at Kirem, Balkunje, Bajpe, Taccode, Padukone,Puttur, Nirkan, Ranipura and Badyar.In her later years she served at Shubhada and Kulshekar. As she was sick she was transferred to Maryvale Convent Kinnigoli for greater medical care in June 2021.She spent her days in union with God, surrendering herself into His hands under the care of the community.
Sr Sunil was interested in gardening, cultivation of kitchen garden, teaching and praying. She was known for her life of simplicity, cheerfulness, spirit of prayer and hospitality. She was able to spread God’s goodness and beauty to all those who came into her life. She had great love for the poor, particularly for those who were deprived of basic needs. She has sown the seed of vocation in the hearts of young boys and girls who responded to God’s call
She was suffering with chronic liver disease, urinary tract, respiratory infection and intestine disorder. As her health was deteriorating for the last 15 days she was admitted to Concetta hospital Kinnigoli .She was administered the Sacrament of Healing . Inspite of the best treatment her condition was worse and on 2nd February 2022 at 4.30 am she breathed her last with chronic liver disease and multi organ failure. Dr. Sr Jeevitha, Sr Premlatha, the Superior and community sisters were present when she commended her soul to her Creator.
I extend my sincere condolence to Sr Cicilia Mendonca, the Provincial Superior and all the sisters of Mangalore Province, Sr Premlatha the local Superior and the members of Maryvale Convent, Kinnigoli who cared for her lovingly.
Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.
