Sr Lucilda BS, nee Philomena Castelino hails from Kulshekar, Mangalore Diocese, Karnataka. She was born on25.04.1948. She was the eighth child among the ten children of late Raymond Castelino and Lucy D’ Silva.She had her primary education at St Joseph’s Hr. Primary Schooland secondary education at Sacred Heart High School, Kulshekar. After completing her TCH training at Capitanio Mangalore, she worked as a teacher for three years. In 1971 she joined the Bethany Congregation and made her First Profession on10.05.1974.

Sr Lucilda was notable in rendering service in various capacities as a headmistress, teacher, hostel warden, teacher of catechism, house management, cultivation, maintaining accounts, in the following communities and schools: St Joseph’s Convent Sagar, Madeline Convent Mulki, St Martha’s Convent Mudigere, Presentation Convent Dharawar, Fatima Convent Dornahalli, Ave Maria Convent Sirsi,Gratia Plena Convent Santibaswad, Mother of Mercy Convent Gadenhalli,Sacred Heart Convent Basrikatte, Jyothi Nilaya Bangalore, St Mary’s Convent Kutta, St Antony’s Convent,Ponnampet. After her dedicated service of 38 years in schools,she was transferred to Bethany Convent, Kable, Shimoga Diocese. She grabbed this opportunity joyfully and left no stone unturned to spread the good news of the love of God and to work relentlessly for the development of the people of the Parish in that remote place. She utilized her talents, energy and time fully for family apostolate, preparing children for first communion and looking after the boarding children.

Sr Lucilda was prompt for all the spiritual exercises, even in her advancing age. She loved to spend time alone with the Lord. Affectionate, enthusiastic and hardworking, she was known for discipline, obedience, and availability for mission. Neatness and order, perfection in work were her outstanding characteristics. She was obliging and respectful towards authorities. She would update herself with current events by reading the newspaper and magazines. She possessed the rare quality of giving company to the sick sisters and would render a helping hand in the kitchen whenever it was required.

In 2019 she was transferred to Jyothi Nilaya for treatment as she was suffering from Parkinson’s disease and age related problems. Yesterday, 17 October, at 8.30pm she had a cardiac arrest. On receiving the news, Sr Sahana the Provincial Superior, Sr Precilla Fernandes, Sr Susan, the Superior and the sisters of Jyothi Nilaya and Provincialate communities rushed to her bedside and commended the soul of Sr Lucilda to her maker.

Her Funeral rites will beheld at Jyothi Nilaya Convent Chapel, Bangalore on 18.10.2020 at 3pm.

I extend my sincere condolences to Sr Sahana, the Provincial Superior and her team and also to Sr Susan, the Superior and the members of the Provincialate and Jyothi Nilaya communities, for their love and support to Sr Lucilda especially during her illness.

Eternal Rest Grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.
