Sr Lucina BS (103) nee Catherine D’souza of the  Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, Bangalore  Province, passed away today (12.06.2019) at 3.45pm at  Bethany Convent,Jayamahal, Bangalore.

She was born in Agrar (Sornad), Mangalore, on 8 June 1917. She is the daughter of late Mr Paul D’souza and late Mrs Mary Magdalene Noronha. Funeral rites will be held at St John the Evangelist Church J C Nagar, Bangalore, tomorrow (13.06.2019) at 3.00 pm. She is the sister of late Mr Ambrose D’Souza, Fr Valerian D’Souza, Fr Denis D’Souza, Ms Celestine D’Souza, Sr Saveria Bridgetine, Sr Celine Josephine B.S, and late Henry D’Souza.
 
Sr Lucina joined the Congregation on 03.12.1933 and made her first profession on 07.05.1937. She has rendered service in the field of education as Headmistress and teacher at Ave Maria Convent Sirsi, Masabiel Convent Bantwal, Presentation Convent Dharwar, Nazareth Convent Bajpe, Bethany Convent, Mangalore, and St Joseph’s Convent Sagar.  She was a committed religious, loving superior, dedicated teacher to the poor and renowned missionary.

After her retirement from teaching service she involved herself in pastoral activities; teaching catechism, visiting the families, attending BCC meetings and visiting the sick. She used to spend her time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. She was a loving sister, known for her simplicity and living a contented life having enjoyed good health till the end.
 
Sr Lucina, was chosen to be a pioneer by our revered Founder in the missionsof Guledgudd in Belgaum ,Dharwad, Sirsi and Sagar. A born leader she has served the Congregation as a superior of several communities including Bethany Jayamahal and headmistress of schools. When the regions were newly formed she was the first Regional Superior of Belgaum Region, for 3 terms, (9 years), and always laboured with love, trusting in the Lord for the growth of the Congregation, for the good of the sisters and for the uplift of the poor.

This morning she showed uneasiness and it seemed that she was nearing her end. The superior, Sr Severine and all the sisters of the community were around her praying for her as she offered her soul into the hands of the Divine Master.

I express my sincere condolence to the members of Jayamahal Convent at Bangalore and in a special manner to Sr Bonita and her team members.
