Bethany Hostel-Jeevan Jyothi Ashram

Mgr Raymond F C Mascarenhas was enraptured by the vision of preaching the gospel to the poor. Sr Medela as Regional Superior and  Superior of St Joseph’s Convent, Sagar, was instrumental in procuring land at Mankale. Most Rev. Alphonsus Mathias, the Bishop of Chikmagalur, blessed the land and laid the foundation stone. Later Fr Augustine Fernandez blessed the building. It was named Jeevan Jyothi Ashram, a home for the poor children, to facilitate free accommodation and education. Sr Bernadette, Sr Nives and Sr Gonzaga were the pioneers. 25 children were accommodated. On 5th June 2004 Bethany Vocational Training Centre with hostel facility was blessed by Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo and inaugurated by Sr Jyoti, the Superior General. On 6th September 2005, the Jeevan Jyothi community was canonically erected as an independent community. Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo celebrated the Eucharist. Sr Winnifred, Sr Eucharia, Sr Flora and Sr Elvira were the members. Bethany Nursery School was started in 2006 to facilitate the English medium education of the local children. St Joseph’s High School was inaugurated on 14th September 2015 by Sr Lillis, the Asst Superior General. Bishop Francis Serrao of Shimoga blessed the building. Sr Ivilla was appointed as the Headmistress. At present Sr M Deena BS is the Superior and Sr Merlyn, Sr Priyalatha, Sr Carmelita and Sr Meena are the members.
